Melfort Plus Industries Receives New Capital Funding from Province

August 28, 2017

Melfort MLA Kevin Phillips, on behalf of Acting Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer, today announced $100,000 in new capital funding for Plus Industries Inc., a community-based organization in Melfort that supports people experiencing disabilities.

“This new funding will help Plus Industries improve their facilities to better support the inclusion of their program participants into our community,” Phillips said.  “Our government understands the valuable work that Plus Industries does to improve the supports and services for people experiencing disabilities.  We are pleased to continue supporting this important community partner as we work together to make Saskatchewan a better place for all people experiencing disabilities.”

Plus Industries Inc. has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities since 1981.  They operate a group home, a day program for 58 people and a supported living program for 23 people.  This new capital funding will go toward renovating the day program facility, including replacing insulation and the heating system and renovating washrooms to become wheelchair accessible.

“This new funding will help us continue serving our program participants who bring so much life to our community,” Plus Industries Board Chair Ed Bourassa said.  “We thank the Government of Saskatchewan for recognizing the important work that we do as we work together on making our province a more inclusive place for people experiencing disabilities.”

The Saskatchewan Disability Strategy was released by the Citizen Consultation Team in June 2015.  Government accepted the strategy and is focused on the foundational work of six priority areas including: transportation, respite, accessibility legislation, residential services, service co-ordination and navigation, and awareness/understanding of the rights of people experiencing disabilities.

Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work which aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
